Great for active Families

Great for all the family

Whether you are reading this as a parent, grandparent, community leader, or teacher, you will see an opportunity unfold before you. To celebrate a Bar or Bat Mitzvah in Israel with you nearest and dearest around you is an experience that will not only stay with you forever but will carry your child in to adulthood.  With a thoughtfully crafted program that will be tailored to suit your needs and interests, and a hand-picked guide chosen as a match for you, a trip to Israel is the most meaningful way to celebrate a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and a Bat/Bar Mitzvah is the most meaningful reason for coming to Israel.

At Gordon Active we understand that building a program for multi-generational groups is a delicate business, and one that we have perfected. We want to show you Israel our way; by bike, on foot, and by sea. The program here is a 10 day model on which you can base your Bar/Bat Mitzvah trip; the ceremony itself should be scheduled for a Monday or Thursday and popular sites include The Western Wall, Masada, or Ein Gedi, but we are happy to help you choose other sites also. You can bring your own rabbi, or we will be happy to make a match for you with one of our exceptional Conservative, Reform, or Orthodox Rabbis.

PACKAGE DETAILS

Day 1 - Tel Aviv

After enjoying a plentiful Israeli breakfast, we’ll start our morning with a pleasant bike ride to the Palmach Museum where the struggles and stories of the young men and women who fought for the establishment of the State of Israel will come to life in this experiential museum. It will then be a short drive to visit the place where their dream became reality; Independence Hall. In contrast to the individual’s narrative told at the Palmach Museum; when you stand in Independence Hall where David Ben Gurion stood on May 14th, 1948, to declare the creation of the State of Israel, you will understand national narrative surrounding that historic event.

After lunch in one of Tel Aviv’s famous gastronomical areas we will put our sea legs on and sail up the coast of the Mediterranean for a different view of the country, before disembarking at the ancient Jaffa Port, and enjoying a free evening to enjoy one of Tel Aviv’s many first class restaurants.

Overnight: Dan Panorama, Tel Aviv.

Day 2 - Caesarea

Our morning will take us up the coast to the ancient city of Caesarea where we will spend the day exploring the city originally built by King Herod from land and sea. Caesarea served as the capital of Judea during the Roman period and an important fortress during the Crusader era; in the course of the day we will find ourselves standing in the remains of both times, and then we will don our swimming costumes and go underwater to explore the remains of the ancient port with the aid of snorkels.

Leaving the Caesarea National Park it will be a short drive to the wonderful Dan Caesarea Hotel where we will check in and enjoy dinner.

Overnight; Dan Caesarea, Caesarea

Day 3 - Western Galil

As our journey up the coast of Israel continues we will spend the morning exploring the subterranean Crusader city in Akko. An UNESCO world heritage site, there is nowhere in the world that you will see remains that compare to the Knights Halls. Before leaving the city you will view the Al Jezzar Mosque and the impressive walls that withstood an attack by Napoleon Bonaparte.

This afternoon we will reach the very north of Israel where we will visit the Achziv beach and swap the bus for kayaks in which we will explore the beautiful grottos of Rosh HaNikra. We will then traverse the Galilee as we travel to Kibbutz HaGoshrim on the tributaries of the Jordan River where we will spend the next few nights, including extensive dinners.

Overnight: HaGoshrim Kibbutz

Day 4 - Golan Heights

This morning we will ascend to the plateau of the Golan Heights where we will hear first hand the stories of the bitter battles that took place over this strategically important area during the Yom Kippur War. Our tour will take us to the OZ77 monument and to the dormant volcano and modern military bunker of Har Bental from where we can see into the abandoned city of Kunetra. From here we will sweeten things up as we visit the De Karina Chocolate Workshop where you can try your hand at making some sweet treats.

A relaxing and refreshing afternoon awaits you; starting with a hike to Brechat Hameshushim you will welcome the cool natural spring water that awaits you on arrival. Our day will end with our return to HaGoshrim where an extensive buffet dinner will greet us.

Overnight: HaGoshrim Kibbutz

Day 5 - Rafting and Relaxation

Today you will take to the water again with some thrilling rafting down the Jordan River followed by an afternoon of rest and relaxation in the hotel including access to the hotel pool. Dinner at the Kibbutz hotel.

Overnight: HaGoshrim Kibbutz

Day 6 - Jordan River Valley

Today we start our journey south with a stop at the beautiful Sachne park where you will have the opportunity to bathe in the oasis like natural pools. This will be followed by a visit to the Nir David Kibbutz which was the first Tower & Stockade settlement.

The afternoon will include an aromatic experience at a spice farm and a possible visit to the ancient city of Beit Shean before heading south through the Great African-Syrian Rift Valley to the Dead Sea where we will check into the Ein Gedi Kibbutz Guesthouse.

Overnight: Ein Gedi Kibbutz Guesthouse

Day 7 - Ein Gedi & Dead Sea

Make the most of the cool morning air with a walk around the luscious gardens of the Ein Gedi kibbutz before breakfast. Following breakfast we will hike to Nahal Arugot where we will be able to experience the hidden waterfall. A short visit to the ancient synagogue at Ein Gedi will reveal the curse of the community, and then it’s on to the Dead Sea for a dip, or rather a float.  Dinner will be enjoyed at the kibbutz Guesthouse.

Overnight: Ein Gedi Kibbutz Guesthouse

Day 8 - Masada

It’s an early start this morning as we will chase the sun up the snake path of Masada, getting to the top to view the beautiful sunrise. Our hike to the top will be followed by a tour of the Herodian outpost that turned into the last stand of the Jews against the Roman Empire in 70 CE.

Having descended from the mountain of Masada, we will begin our aliya to Jerusalem where we will check into our hotel and enjoy dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Overnight: Jerusalem

Day 9 - Jerusalem

This morning we will go to the place where it all began, The City of David. Here we will stand in the building that many believe to be the palace of King David, and walk through the incredible water tunnel created by King Hezekiah nearly 2,800 years ago.  We will follow the newly discovered ancient Roman Road up into the Old City itself where following in the footsteps of pilgrims, we will visit the Western Wall and go on a fascinating underground tour of the Western Wall Tunnels.

After lunch in the Old City we will explore the four quarters of the city including the Cardo, the Jewish Quarter, and the Christian Quarter.  Dinner will be served in the hotel.

Overnight: Jerusalem

Day 10 - Judean Hills

We head out of the city today and explore the biblical nature reserve of Neot Kedumim, by bike, where we get to leave our mark on the landscape of Israel by taking part in a tree planting ceremony. From here we will stop at Latrun where we can see the tank museum and see the site of one of Israel’s most difficult battles during the War of Independence.

This afternoon we dive back in time as we get our hands dirty taking part in an active archaeological dig in the ancient city of Meresha where you will discover artifacts dating from the time of Chanukah.
