Upcoming Departures 2016-17

March 4th, May 6th, August 26th, October 7th, 2018

Gordon Tours and Dan Active believe in biking hard and resting well; hence the country’s leaders in bike tours and in hotels have come together to offer you an incredible journey through the north of the country. Starting in Tel Aviv the tour will take you up the coast in to the Carmel range, through the Galilee, around the Sea of Galilee, in to the Jezreel Valley and on to Jerusalem. In just 9 days you will not only ride some of the best routes in the country, but you will visit the important historical and cultural sites on route, and at the end of the day relax in a luxury hotel.

The tour is available based on two levels of accommodation; deluxe hotels and first class superior, and offers rides of between 30-70km on most days often with options for a shorter or longer ride. The price of the tour includes accommodation, most meals, bike rental, guide and support; in other words, it’s all taken care of for you, you just need to sign up.

Our tour will begin in the Dan Hotel in Tel Aviv where we will have introductions, bike fitting and a briefing about the week to come. From here we will set out on a 3 hour bike ride through the city, getting to know Tel Aviv like the locals do. We will utilize the many miles of bike lanes and green parks through the city for a guided tour of the historic, cultural, and architectural sights and sites of the city. After our tour we will head north by bus and check into our hotel in Caesarea.

DAY 3 - Carmel to Caesarea

We will leave early in the morning by van and drive to the Horn of Carmel. It is in this biblical site that Elijah overcame the prophets of Ba’al (I Kings 18). After enjoying a spectacular view of the Jezreel Valley from the rooftop of the church here, we will bike down the slope of the Carmel. We will pass several of the early kibbutzim along the way, and then ride through the Amikam region, known as the Tuscany of Israel. From here we will ride to Caesarea. Built in the first century BC by King Herod, we will bike along the aqueduct all the way to the ancient port. After lunch on your own in the Caesarea harbor we will take a short walking tour of the city that was once the capital of Judea, and is today a true gem on the coast. From here it’s just 10 minute bike ride and we will roll into our Hotel in Caesarea. We will enjoy the grounds, the pool and the fantastic spa.

Included in our walking tour will be a visit to the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and a view of the Temple Mount/Haram Al-Sharif.  You will visit the famous Western Wall Tunnels that go along the walls of the ancient Second Temple platform under the Muslim Quarter, and you will walk through the famous Jerusalem Bizarre. After passing through the market you will be free to choose whether to return to your hotel to rest or explore Jerusalem on your own until we meet again in the evening after dinner.

A little after dusk, we will leave for the breathtaking experience of a night ride within the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City.  On mountain bikes we will revisit some of the sites we saw earlier today but under the cloak of darkness, enabling us to experience anew. We will ride through the Jaffa Gate, and wind our way through the narrow stepped alleyways of the quarters. We will finish our tour close to the Jaffa Gate where we will enjoy a refreshing cold drink and a midnight snack.
