This 9 day route will take you on a wonderful journey through the northern edge of Israel. Starting from the Mediterranean, you will ascend to the Holy city of Tzfat,  across the Hula Valley, up to the Golan Heights, and around the Sea of Galilee. The route is fully paved and can be done on road bikes or hybrids.


DAY 1 - Briefing and Akko Loop - 45km/75km

Meet a Gordon Active representative in Tel Aviv to receive your bikes and self-guide package. Our representative will go over all the routes with you. Take the train to Nahariya (after 9am) and start your ride for the day. Visit the natural grotos of Rosh Hanikra and tour the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Akko, before returning to Shavei Tzion close to Nahariya for overnight. 2 options:

DAY 2 - Western Galil and the Northern Mediterranean Coast - 35km

Ride out of your hotel up the coast to Rosh HaNikra before climbing eastwards in to the towering Upper Galil. View the Western Galil sites as you ride to a local kibbutz for overnight.

DAY 3 - Western Galilee & Safed - 43km

Continuing through the Western Galil you will view the Motfort castle, and have the opportunity to stop in local towns to taste some authentic middle eastern cuisine. Arrive in Safed, the home of Jewish Mysticism and an enchanting place for overnight.

DAY 4 - Safed Area - 0km/37km

Take a rest day to enjoy the enchanting city of Safed with its ancient synagogues and artists’ colony, or ride out in to the surrounding areas to see local wineries and important sites in Israel’s history.

DAY 5- Eastern Galil, Galilee Panhandle - 32km

Famed for it’s wine production your ride today takes you through the thick forests of Eastern Galil, and several acclaimed wineries. You will continue to the Galilee Panhandle where you will stay in a local kibbutz.

DAY 6 - Hula Valley and Golan Heights - 45km

Riding out of the Galilee Panhandle you will cross the Hula Valley, a haven for birds on the migration routes. You will climb the volcanic plateau of the Golan Heights and cross to it’s eastern side for overnight.

DAY 7 - Rest Day or Golan Loop

Spend the day relaxing in your hotel, or exploring the immediate surroundings. Alternatively chose from 1 of 2 great rides around the Northern Golan Heights incorporating places of historical, cultural, and religious importance.

DAY 8 - Golan Heights to Sea of Galilee

Say goodbye to the Golan Heights as you drop to the lowest fresh water lake in the world, The Sea of Galilee. Stunning routes and great sites on both options for today’s ride, ending in the town of Tiberius on the shores of the lake.

DAY 9 - Sea of Galilee Loop

Ride full circle around the Sea of Galilee visiting the important sites en route.

DAY 10 - Departure

Take the bus from Tiberius to Jerusalem where your bike will be collected.

We are happy to customize a tour for you; there will be an additional fee for this above the price for any extra services.

We recommend doing this ride on hybrid bikes, but road bikes are also available.

We are happy to look after any luggage for you for the duration of the ride. The tour price includes panniers for the gear you will require for the duration of the ride. We can arrange luggage transfers between your hotels, however this is at an extra charge of $100 per transfer.

We provide our self guiders with maps, gps, routes, and phone numbers for their hotels. We do provide a phone number for emergency contact, however we do expect our self-guiders to be confident travelers and adept problem-solvers.

Yes. All road signs in Israel are written in English as well as Hebrew and Arabic. Most people speak some English, and are happy to help.

Important to know:

  • Self-guided tours should be booked at least 6 weeks before departure.
  • Price may vary depending on season and size of group.
